Just read Powell.com's review of Patrick Andersen's The Triumph of the Thriller. It was an awesomely validating review for those us that enjoy detective, espionage, or crime novels (Andersen's definition of thriller). I highly recommend reading the review: now I'm going to have to hunt down the book!
